World's First 3D Printed Motorcycle

APWorks, a subsidiary of Airbus, has unveiled a new electric ultralightweight motorcycle called the Light Rider. Fabricated from an aluminum alloy powder that APWorks calls "Scalmalloy," the futuristic looking machine weighs in at 77lbs and has a claimed top speed of 50 mph with a range of 35 miles.

The Light Rider's 6 kW motor is powered by a swappable battery and delivers a claimed torque of 95.9 foot pounds (130 Nm). Set against the bike's weight, we imagine that it must deliver an exciting ride.

The street legal motorcycle is suspended up-front with adjustable bicycle Rockx Shocks and a horizontal rear monoshock mounted to a one-piece dual sided swingarm, fabricated from the same "Scalmalloy" material which is said to have the same "specific strength of titanium."

APWorks doesn't appear to be getting into the electric motorcycle business as they're only going to build 50 Light Riders. But those models will be for sale and you can reserve yours by pre-ordering it today with a $2500 deposit.
