Social media personality Jack Doherty was cited by cops following his live-streamed McLaren crash in Florida last week, authorities said.

Doherty streamed himself crashing his McLaren 570S on the Florida Turnpike in Miami at around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Following an investigation into the crash, Florida Highway Patrol cited the influencer for using a wireless communication device while driving.

A clipped recording of the original stream shows the crash, which clearly shows Doherty looking at his phone while driving in heavy rain. The engine note then picks up as he seems to accelerate, and shortly afterward he shouts out before the car suddenly veers toward the outside wall. He continues to record after the crash, filming debris from the crash strewn across two lanes of the turnpike. The car's front structure is shown to be heavily damaged after the hit and multiple airbags are seen to be deployed inside of the cabin.

Doherty was banned from the streaming platform Kick for his actions. After the crash, the platform told R&T that "KICK does not condone illegal activity, which is why we swiftly took action and moved to ban this creator from the platform."

In a clip of a stream recorded from a TikTok Live broadcast, Doherty briefly explains his perspective on the crash.

"I hydroplaned, I literally hydroplaned," the influencer said, replying to a viewer. "I'm in a McLaren in the pouring rain, what do you expect? You guys have never drove [sic] a McLaren."

While Doherty may have hydroplaned, McLaren has produced more than 30,000 cars as of Q1 2024 and the vast majority have not been crashed in the rain. Additionally, the 570S that Doherty drove is one of the less powerful models that the brand offered when he purchased it in 2023.
