Sometimes we’re simultaneously impressed and amused at the dogged determination suspects show while running from cops. Take for example this woman driving a Honda Civic which has been reported as stolen. Even though the car seems to be suffering some sort of mechanical fault, she still runs when a Florida trooper comes along and takes four PIT maneuvers like a champion.

Volunteers help catch the leader of a car theft ring.

Florida Highway Patrol was already keeping a watch for the Civic in the Lake Worth area when it was reported as sitting on the side of Interstate 95 with its emergency flashers on. As the trooper pulls up behind, the woman takes off, well kind of.

Instead of tearing down the road as fast as a Civic’s little four-banger can carry it, the little car more slowly drives down the interstate. That makes us think it’s having problems and can’t go fast. But does the driver just give up argue her case to the judge? Of course not!

Instead, she makes a slow, perplexing escape attempt. And she’s doggedly determined to get away, continuing to push the car after each successive PIT like it’s stolen or something.

Can you imagine what this woman could accomplish if she applied this kind of determination to every aspect of her life? That kind of stubborn drive could propel her through rigorous academic programs, take on 70-plus hours of work a week, and create the type of career many would be envious of.

Instead, she’s pushing a stolen Honda Civic down the interstate as a Florida trooper prepares to PIT it once more.

She just keeps driving out of the PITs, even after the trooper tries pinning the Civic to the guardrail using his push bar. The fourth and finally PIT seems to do enough damage the Honda can’t be flogged anymore and the chase finally comes to an end.

Again, we’re not sure if we should be impressed or bewildered. Why did she keep running?
