Beautifully restored 1973.5 Porsche 911T Targa with a rebuilt 2.4L flat-six engine, perfect for any classic car collection.
A meticulously restored 1973.5 Porsche 911T Targa, powered by a fuel-injected 2.4L flat-six engine, is now available on Bring a Trailer. This classic beauty, finished in Signal Yellow with tan leatherette upholstery, underwent a comprehensive mechanical refurbishment, including a rebuilt engine and five-speed manual transaxle. Initially purchased in April 2021, the car's current owner ensured it received meticulous care, including wheel refinishing and fuel system updates.
The car, assembled in May 1973, features US-specification bumpers and a driver-side mirror. The comprehensive restoration included refinishing the 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels and re-anodizing them, complemented by Michelin XWX tires from 2019. The braking system saw a complete overhaul in 2020 with rebuilt calipers and new master cylinder, lines, and rotors.
Inside, the front bucket seats and rear seats are upholstered in tan leatherette, while the interior also features a Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio, locking glovebox, and heater. Significant interior work in 2020 included repainting door surfaces and powder-coating the pedal-box housing, ensuring a pristine look and feel.
The 2.4-liter flat-six engine was expertly rebuilt in 2020 by Prato Motorwerks of Covina, California. The rebuild included comprehensive machine work, replacing bearings and gaskets, and polishing and balancing the rotating assembly. Additional upgrades include pistons vapor-honed and cylinders re-lined by U.S. Chrome, overhauled cylinder heads, and installed Carrera-style oil-pressure-fed chain tensioners. Further work included cleaning and resealing the fuel tank, repainting the engine compartment, and replacing the fuel pump and accumulator. In 2022, the battery and the fuel line to the cold-start injector were replaced, and the fueling was fine-tuned following an overhaul of the fuel distributor.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a rebuilt 915 five-speed manual transaxle, completed in 2020 with new synchronizers, gaskets, seals, and differential bearings. The exhaust system has been ceramic-coated, adding both durability and a refined look to this classic sports car.
This 911T Targa is offered with a comprehensive set of documents, including the window sticker, ownership papers, a tool kit, service records, spare parts, and a clean Illinois title. The car has clocked 78,000 miles, with approximately 600 miles added under current ownership.
This 1973.5 Porsche 911T Targa is a remarkable example of a classic Porsche, combining the allure of a vintage sports car with modern performance and reliability enhancements. Its meticulous restoration and careful maintenance make it a desirable addition to any classic car collection. Don't miss your chance to own this beautifully restored 911T Targa, a testament to Porsche's enduring legacy of excellence in engineering and design.
