Time marches on, and the Toyota Sienna keeps getting more equipment. Even though crossovers have eaten the minivan’s lunch, Toyota is giving minivan devotees even more features for 2025.

The ’25 Sienna adds an active rear-seat reminder system and is updating the media system on better equipped models, while cranking up the price. The Advanced Rear Seat Reminder system is standard on every 2025 Sienna, and it’s kind of a big deal.

Many rear-seat reminder systems operate based on the rear passenger doors opening or closing. Instead of using this door-logic-based system, Toyota now uses a sensor in the headliner that shoots a radar signal around the cabin to see if anything is moving.

In theory, this should make those who open the rear passenger door to store cargo avoid any rear-seat reminder warning. While this is obviously good for those who aren’t hauling people, the more obvious benefit is the fact that it might make an absent-minded parent remember that they have precious cargo in the back.

If you happen to forget that you have a person or animal in the back—and have cycled off the ignition, exited the vehicle, and locked the doors—the ’25 Sienna will flash your hazard lights and trigger the door lock system.

If you ignore that, you’ll get a friendly horn beep after 90 seconds. If you still ignore the warning, you’ll eventually get notifications in your Toyota App and text messages to the phone number saved in the user profile.

This system might be new for the ’25 Sienna, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise for other automakers to start rolling out similar systems before the end of the decade.

Alongside the upgraded rear seat reminders, vehicles equipped with the 12.3-inch touchscreen will get an update to that media system.

Base, LE models will still get the 8-inch screen and older system, but XLE models and above come with the updated 12.3-inch screen-based Toyota media platform. Joining this upgraded system is a vacuum and refrigerator in Limited and Platinum grades.

Powering this Sienna is still the same 2.5-liter hybrid system that works with the Toyota eCVT. Combined, the electric motor and the four-cylinder engine make 245 hp while advertising 36 mpg combined.

You can also add an all-wheel-drive system to the Sienna, which uses another electric motor on the rear axle. This Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system, as Toyota calls it, docks you one mpg combined, but offers the same 36 mpg highway rating.

Toyota says it also improved the interior’s fit and finish, but we will have to wait to see those upgrades until this fall, when these ’25 Sienna minivans start hitting dealers en masse.

Toyota says the front-wheel-drive LE Sienna will start at $40,635, which is a $1,500 bump over the ’24 model minivan.
