ASU's Kenny Dillingham over Arizona's Jedd Fisch? Fans slam Pac-12 football coach ranking
A recent ranking of Pac-12 football coaches had some Arizona football fans riled up on social media.
Really riled up.
West Coast Football unveiled its ranking of the 12 coaches in the conference for 2023 and it had Arizona coach Jedd Fisch all the way down at No. 11.
That didn't sit well with Wildcats fans. Neither did the fact that the site had new Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham, who has never been a college football head coach, above him in the ranking at No. 8.
Of Fisch, the site wrote: "Jedd Fisch has been stellar off the field as the Head Coach of the Wildcats while finding success in recruiting, the transfer portal and energizing the fanbase. 2023 will be key for his tenure in Tucson and a bowl appearance would do a lot to cement him as the long term answer to lead the Wildcats back to respectability."
Arizona football prediction: Wildcats will take step back under Jedd Fisch in 2023 season
Of Dillingham, it wrote: "Kenny Dillingham was a home run hire for the Sun Devils and should instantly bring electric offenses to the Desert. Expect the 32 year old Head Coach to rapidly climb this list in the coming years but for now we will start him at eight given the lack of head coaching experience."
ASU football prediction: Sun Devils will win just 3 games under Kenny Dillingham in 2023
Ranking the Pac-12 Head Coaches for 2023:
5. Chip Kelly (UCLA)
6. Dan Lanning (Oregon)
7. Deion Sanders (Colorado)
8. Kenny Dillingham (ASU)
9. Jake Dickert (WSU)
10. Justin Wilcox (Cal)
11. Jedd Fisch (UA)
12. Troy Taylor (Stanford)

Utah's Kyle Whittingham was No. 1 in the ranking, with USC's Lincoln Riley No. 2. Washington's Kalen DeBoer was No. 3 and Oregon State's Jonathan Smith came in at No. 4.
Chip Kelly from UCLA came in at No. 5 in the Pac-12 coach rankings, followed by Dan Lanning (Oregon) and Deion Sanders (Colorado).
Jake Dickert (Washington State) was No. 9, with Justin Wilcox (California) No. 10 and Troy Taylor (Stanford) last.
But Jedd Fisch and Kenny Dillingham's rankings were of particular interest to many on social media.

How the hell is Dilly who’s never coached a college game as a HBC be rated higher? SMH 🤦♀️

Dillingham must be getting credit for all those seasons he has been a head coach elsewhere. Compared to Fisch who has never coached a game

How do you rank a head coach in Dilly that has never coached before over Fisch who has shown incredible improvement in his short time? I’m a big Dillingham fan, but this doesn’t make sense. Maybe after season 2, but not before his first game.

How do you put Dillingham over Fisch with no experience and with the turnaround Fisch is clearly leading? Crazy.

Jeff Fisch way too low. He definitely above Wilcox and Dickert. Could even make a case for Dilly cuz Dilly unproven as a HC

Sorry, remind me again how many wins Dilly Dilly has?

Deion sanders and dillingham should be at the bottom of this list until they win some p5 games

What a silly list. You have Dilly at #8 when he has never coached a single game? If you think @CoachJeddFisch is the 11th best coach based on results the last 2 years, fine. But how does that justify a guy with zero wins, 3 spots above him? #BearDown pic.twitter.com/c9QQu4hRC9

Dillingham above Fisch might be the dumbest thing I’ve seen on this app. Dude has no experience head coaching, and has just been okay recruiting, whereas Fisch has coached a team that improved a lot last year and is going to go to a bowl game this year.

Jedd Fisch #11. Are you freaking CRAZY?
— Merced (@westcoastguy123) January 28, 2023
Would you put Jedd Fisch ahead of Kenny Dillingham in your ranking of Pac-12 football coaches for 2023?
