Diamond car paint last frontier in bling from German tuner Gemballa
Ever since the invention of metal flake paint, car fans have sought ways to make their vehicles sparkle with a depth that plain old polishing simply couldn't produce. German tuning house Gemballa has taken the art of mixing paint with reflective bits to its most expensive extreme by creating a coating made with finely crushed diamonds, a world first. My God, it's full of stars.
Known mostly for its customized Porsches, Gemballa says the new coating required a precise specification of ground diamonds -- small enough to be applied into paint, but large enough to still have facets that catch light. The company says it can tune the shade of the paint through a few shades of grey and white. The company didn't release other details about the coating, such as price or when it might be seen on an actual car, and boutique car paints have a habit of deteriorating in everyday weather. Then again, this paint will do its job if it only survives the filming of a few music videos.
