If you have a nice vehicle, especially something that’s expensive, leaving it in airport parking is a huge risk. We don’t care if it’s in a giant open lot or one of those “secure” parking structures, thieves could take it with ease. We’ve covered quite a few airport car thefts lately and it’s happened again, this time to a C7 Corvette at the Memphis International Airport.

New report exposes the extent of car thefts at SeaTac.

Sadly, the owner lost his 2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport after parking it on the fifth floor of the economy lot for five days. When the guy returned after his business trip all he found was another car in his spot and glass on the ground, reports WREG.

In other words, these weren’t the most sophisticated thieves. They broke the glass to get inside and so we’re guessing they were likely teenagers recruited by theft rings. Armed with the right tools to boost a ride like that C7 Corvette, plus all the time in the world, they were able to get the sports car and be long gone before the owner realized there was a problem.

That’s the thing with airport parking: people leave their vehicles for days at a time, giving thieves plenty of opportunity to break in and get a specific ride started. And since there are plenty of cars in the airport parking, if thieves are looking for a certain make and model they can usually find it after driving around for a bit.

We know plenty of people drive to the airport and leave their vehicle parked there without problems. However, you’re taking a risk doing that, especially if you have something thieves decide they want. Our advice is to have a friend or family member drive you to the airport. Or you can use a service like Uber or a taxi.
