Sometimes people do strange things with cars. We’ve seen an awful lot of interesting modifications in our time, but we’ve seen just as many odd behaviors behind the steering wheel. But we believe this is the first time we’ve witnessed someone try to drive their Corvette on a pedestrian bridge.

Two teens shot at Los Angeles street takeover.

An unidentified driver in Los Angeles, California got his C7 Corvette stuck at the entrance to a pedestrian bridge in the Sylmar area on the morning of July 23. The crazy scene was documented by an NBC Los Angeles helicopter, which took video footage of the aftermath.

Usually, footpaths have bollards which keep cars from driving on them, but this one seems to not have any. It starts off as a fairly wide, somewhat winding paved route, so it’s easy to see how the driver maneuvered the sports car onto it.

However, the path takes a sharp 90-degree left turn while narrowing and adding chain link fencing and that’s where the driver crashed. We can see in the aftermath he went straight instead of making that sharp turn, crashing through the fence and impacting a large utility pole.

From the aerial view, it appears the Chevy sustained only slight front end damage, but we can’t be sure. NBC Los Angeles did mention the driver was injured although not badly in the crash.

Why the guy would drive on a footpath and not stop when he came to this turn but instead charge ahead is a bit of a mystery. We can think of a few possible explanations.

It’s possible the driver is older and got confused. We know that’s a tired Corvette stereotype but it exists for a reason.

Drugs or alcohol might have been a factor. Or the driver was completely unfamiliar with the area and how roads in this country work.

Finally, this could have been a stunt gone wrong, although that seems least likely out of all the theories. We might never know what this driver was thinking, but we do have the memorable image of the aftermath.
