Broad Arrow Auctions is set to feature an extraordinary gem at the Monterey Jet Center 2024 event: a 1998 RUF CTR 2, estimated to fetch between $2,200,000 and $2,500,000. This iconic vehicle, with its RUF W09 chassis number, represents the pinnacle of bespoke automotive craftsmanship. Not only is this CTR 2 believed to be the only one still in its original ownership, but it also boasts an impressive array of specifications, including a powerful 580-horsepower engine, 4WD, a wide body, short ratio transmission, and carbon brakes. With approximately 28,700 kilometers from new, this is a rare opportunity to own one of fewer than 30 CTR 2s ever produced.

RUF Automobile GmbH, founded in 1939 by Alois Ruf Sr. in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, has earned a stellar reputation for precision engineering and exceptional performance. Initially focused on vehicle repairs and servicing, RUF transitioned into manufacturing its own high-performance automobiles under the leadership of Alois Ruf Jr. The CTR 2, unveiled in 1995, followed the legendary CTR “Yellowbird,” which gained international fame for its performance and iconic appearance. This particular CTR 2, part of a limited production run, embodies the evolution of RUF’s engineering prowess, combining advanced aerodynamics with unparalleled power.

The consigner of this 1998 RUF CTR 2 initially sought a high-performance vehicle during a European tour in November 1997. After visiting both Gemballa and RUF, the decision was made to go with RUF due to its manufacturer status and unique VIN sequence beginning with “W09.” The consigner initially considered the famous Yellowbird but ultimately opted for a new CTR 2, specified with numerous high-performance upgrades. These included the uprated 580-horsepower engine, lightweight carbon-kevlar body panels, 4WD system, and advanced carbon brakes. Throughout the production process, the consigner maintained close communication with RUF, ensuring every detail met their exacting standards.

Upon completion, the CTR 2 was delivered in early 1998, featuring a meticulously specified configuration that prioritized acceleration with shorter gear ratios. The vehicle's extensive history file includes communication and order forms between the consigner and RUF, offering a rare glimpse into RUF’s personalized ordering process. This history, combined with the car's remarkable condition and single-owner provenance, makes it a highly collectible masterpiece.

The 1998 RUF CTR 2 has lived a secluded life, largely unknown to collectors until its recent appearance at the 2024 Amelia Island Concours. Now, this air-cooled marvel, with its rich history and exceptional specifications, is poised to capture the attention of discerning collectors at the upcoming Broad Arrow Auctions event. Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of automotive history that represents the zenith of RUF’s engineering and design.
