When you’re dumb enough to shoot at a cop and then make a run for it, you should fully expect police to not hold back once they catch up to you. And if your getaway car is a Nissan Kicks, you should anticipate that will happen in short order. In fact, we’re a little surprised Michigan State Police didn’t take this guy down faster.

Watch Arkansas State Police bust some street racers.

Part of the reason why the pursuit didn’t end sooner was that MSP didn’t have any Dodge Charger Pursuits in the area. What you see in the dashcam footage is all Chevy Tahoes. This isn’t a Mopar vs GM thing, just it’s a fact the Chargers are faster.

Plus, troopers have to clear intersections with red lights before driving through and the suspect, who obviously has a death wish, doesn’t. That gives him another advantage.

Despite having the edge in those areas, the gutless Kicks and the suspect’s lack of pursuit training work against him, allowing troopers to keep up and eventually overtake him.

Before they can, the suspect gets on the highway and weaves through traffic. This causes one driver to swerve in an attempt to miss the little Nissan, the car veering over the median strip for an on-ramp and rolling. This is the scary part about suspects who will do anything to get away, putting everyone else at risk.

Eventually, after getting back on surface streets, our suspect ironically swerves to miss another car, almost sideswiping a utility pole and slowing down enough for a trooper to perform a hard PIT maneuver, spinning and pinning the Kicks against a fence.

MSP isn’t any gentler when it comes to arresting the guy who tried killing a cop. They break his window, pull him out of the Nissan, and cuff him on a cruiser’s hood. The whole time the female passenger in the Kicks is crying and screaming about being scared. We’re sure troopers were as well considering they were dealing with someone who apparently had zero reservations about shooting at police.
