There’s an old saying about quitting while you’re ahead, something the driver of this Ford Mustang GT who ran from Arkansas troopers obviously knows nothing about. The guy was able to smoke Arkansas State Police after running from a speeding ticket, but he kept going and was brought down by his own hubris.

Watch a Florida trooper PIT a fleeing truck into an innocent motorist.

While one could argue the guy should’ve just stopped running after he lost ASP troopers, there’s another even more sensible take on this situation. He was originally clocked going 62 in a 40 mph zone. Sure, he would’ve been hit with a big speeding ticket, but by running he also earned reckless driving and fleeing charges, which are far worse.

Either way you cut it, if you watch the included dashcam footage he pulls out all the stops to get away from troopers. The guy pushes his pony to well over 100 mph on surface streets, not the highway, which is crazy dangerous yet effective.

But the guy blows through red lights, risking close calls. He also weaves through traffic and drives in oncoming lanes. At those speeds, a collision likely would’ve involved serious injuries, possibly one or more fatalities. He does all that to get out of a speeding ticket.

We know some people will argue troopers are really at fault for chasing him. Just remember, nobody is forced to run from police, they make a choice to do it.

Eventually he goes fast enough and makes enough turns, troopers lose sight of him completely. They switch off their sirens but keep combing the area, hoping they run across the Mustang GT again.

Instead of just parking somewhere and walking off, the guy keeps driving. Maybe he didn’t know where to leave his car, fearful it would’ve been seized, and if troopers found it they probably would’ve. But by continuing to drive around the area, he eventually gets cornered by a trooper, who holds him at gunpoint.

This is why you quit while you’re ahead. And the best way to do that is just pull over when you’re caught speeding.
