Sweater Causes California Ford Truck Driver To Crash

A sweater was blamed for a Ford Super Duty losing control and crashing on a San Diego, California freeway recently. If that doesn’t sound like the most ridiculous thing, it’s at least close and that’s really saying something these days.

Motorcycle rider tries fleeing police in the rain, learns a valuable lesson.

Footage captured by OnScene TV shows the aftermath of the wreck, which happened back on November 22 just before 6 am. Apparently, the driver told police he was trying to take off a sweater he was wearing, but lost control of the Ford truck as he traveled south on SR-163.

The Super Duty hit two light poles on the side of the freeway, severing both like Paul Bunyon swinging his axe to chop down a forest. Don’t let anyone tell you these Fords aren’t stout big things. Although Ram and GM guys will be quick to point out how much front-end damage was done to the truck from just two measly light poles.

Some of that damage was done when the Ford rolled, only it ended up ultimately on its wheels like some big cat. It also hit several trees during the crash, so we go back to the Paul Bunyon reference.

While it’s not spelled out, we imagine the issue with the sweater was that the driver got too hot and tried taking it off. Sweaters can have notoriously tight neck holes so you can get your big head caught in there. And that’s a really bad position to find yourself in while driving.

The guy would’ve been far better off just turning off the truck’s heater and rolling down a window. He probably realizes that now and feels foolish for crashing all because of his sweater. This is about as ridiculous as people who wreck out because they try eating a hard shell taco while driving – don’t do that.

Reportedly, the driver was transported to the hospital, although it wasn’t clear how severe his injuries were.
