Toyota Customer Tells What His Attorney Has Said About The GPS Tracker

You might recall not that long ago we profiled a Toyota Corolla GR customer and car YouTuber, Anthony Do, who found a GPS tracking device hidden in his car. Tucked under the lower dash, piggybacked onto his OBDII port, he only became suspicious about it after something drained the battery on his car as it sat for a few weeks.

Watch a cop try to chase down a Ford Focus ST.

That discovery spread far and wide, surprising even Do. After all, he’s hardly the first person to discover a dealership allegedly installed a GPS tracker on their vehicle. While some tried saying it was no big deal, enough people believe it to be a serious violation of privacy.

Do spoke with an attorney about the whole thing and provided us with an update. Now he’s back to tell us what his lawyer’s assessment of the situation is.

Some viewers apparently have been impatient about getting an update on the legal case. We’re guessing these people have never actually worked with attorneys and court proceedings before, which are often notoriously tedious and drawn out. The wheels of justice truly turn slowly.

What’s delayed things further is the storm which knocked power out to most of Houston, which is where Anthony Do lives. We’re in crazy times when having functional electricity in major US cities isn’t always a guarantee.

With those delays, the attorney’s office hasn’t been able to completely vet the purchase agreement for the Toyota. But Do says so far they don’t believe there’s any language in there which justifies the placement of a GPS tracker.

If you don’t recall, Do didn’t finance the Corolla GR, he paid cash for it. And the dealer didn’t have it in its stock, he ordered it from the factory and was there when it was unloaded from the transport truck as the dealership. In other words, as he was finalizing paperwork and such, that’s when the service department would’ve had time to put the GPS tracker in.

Since it wasn’t done just in case Do didn’t pay on his loan or to guard against the car being stolen off the lot, why was it even there? That’s the real question we would love to see answered. Unfortunately, with attorneys involved that might take some time.
