Watch as We Go over 200 MPH in the New 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1
We're not sure what's more impressive: the fact that the new 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 can go faster than 215 mph or that it makes going over 200 mph feel like driving Miss Daisy on a Sunday cruise. We'll go with the latter, as we got to experience that feeling firsthand during our very first ride in the wildest Vette yet.
Just over a month ago, technical editor Mike Sutton was invited to GM's proving grounds in Milford, Michigan, for a ride-along in the 1064-hp ZR1. It was a clear day, and the development prototype was a camouflaged coupe (standard trim) but equipped with the available Aero package, meaning it had, among other upgrades, the big rear wing.
Sutton's chauffeur was Aaron Link, Chevy's global vehicle performance manager. With our first chance to drive the ZR1 still a ways away, Link gave us the next best thing—a brief thrill ride down MPG's 2.5-mile straightaway. Here's what Sutton had to say about what's easily the most exciting Uber ride he has ever taken:
From a 20-mph roll in second gear, the ZR1's recalibrated Performance Traction Management system was evident as the car cleanly hooked up under full throttle, pinning us to the seatback and rocketing past 200 mph in about half the length of the straight. The downforce from the big Aero package held the car rock steady at speed, and the furious howl the LT7 emits sounds even more menacing than the LT6's, despite the muffling effect of its turbos.
In the video, it takes the ZR1 roughly 28 seconds to go from about 20 to 205 mph. As the excitement subsides and Link scrubs speed, albeit while still traveling at around 150 mph, he says, "So, 200 pretty easily."
Sutton's response: "That was the most effortless 205 I've ever seen."
There's no doubt the Corvette ZR1 is officially part of the hypercar crew, and we can't wait to drive it.
