2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe arrives to a crowded showroom

Here's a puzzler for you: The 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. It has four doors, like a sedan. Also, just like the 3 Series. Only this four door features a sleeker roofline and a coupe-like trunk. Like the 3 Series Gran Turismo. It's a 3 Series with a 4 Series hatch and more rear legroom than the 3 Series GT. That makes it better. Or worse. Or indifferent. Or… I just don't know.

It's been like this for sometime now. BMW is slicing up segments and making segments within segments within segments. It's completely baffling. In the same breath, there will be buyers out there that need the 3 Series' four doors but hate wagons, despise anything named Gran Turismo that isn't a video game, and prefer the flexibility of a coupe's trunk.

So who's to judge?

Moving on. The design is exactly what you'd expect from a lengthened 4 Series. If you like BMW's thinner, Mathew McConaughey in "Dallas Buyers Club," face then you'll probably enjoy this too. The 428i Gran Coupe will feature a 2.0-liter twin turbo four, good for 240 hp. The 435i arrives with a 3.0-liter twin turbo six, boasting 300 hp. Initially, BMW's xDrive four-wheel drive system will be optional on just the 428i. At least that parts simple.
