BMW sets world’s record for longest drift with a sliding M5

In a combination of charity fund-raiser and entertaining use of corporate resources, a driver at BMW's Performance Center in South Carolina set out Saturday to beat the Guinness World Record for longest drift in a car. Using a stock BMW M5 from the center's fleet, a fresh set of Continental ContiSport tires and a skidpad continually hosed down into a circular Slip 'n' Slide, driver Johan Schwartz managed to surpass the previous record of 3.6 miles in a matter of minutes — en route to a new record of 51.278 miles, or 322 laps of the skidpad. You can see some of the attempt — edited for brevity, thankfully — below.
