Chevrolet Volt owner shows Newt Gingrich how to put a gun rack in one

Aspiring zookeeper and frequent Tiffany's shopper Newt Gingrich made some fresh waves in his wavy presidential campaign last week in Georgia, claiming the Obama administration wanted to force smaller vehicles and electric cars like the Chevrolet Volt on Americans, saying: "You can't put a gun rack in a Volt." One Chevrolet Volt owner took that as a challenge.

In the video below, the Volt owner -- also apparently from Georgia -- says he made the video to respond to the cheap shots by Gingrich made against the Volt, noting it's made and designed in the United States, unlike nearly every other hybrid or electric vehicle on American roads. All we'll add is that while GM says it didn't design the Volt to be a "political punching bag" and might not be the first choice for a hunting trip, it did shoot battery packs to ensure they wouldn't blow up if bullets passed through. (They don't.)

Score one for engineering over politics.

Shouldn't the weapon rack in a Chevy Volt have had a Taser instead?

Even though I live in Switzerland, I can't help but admire the American way. I do agree with this guys weapon selection as well. The bottom one is an SKS which is the fore-bearer to the AK-47. Incredible weapon and very accurate. However, you're better off just going with an AK. They're cheap in price (not in quality) and it's relatively easy to find replacement and customized accessories for it. But I have to admit, I love the retractable bayonet of the SKS. Good video. I really hope you Americans get the right person in office. Hello from Switzerland!

There is a new Battery for electric cras coming from a team of engineers at M.I.T . half the weight half the cost twice the power of current electric car batteries recharges in the time it takes to fill a tank with gas. Called the "semi solid flow cell" it's a game changer. Should be ready in less than a year . Total new technology you have never seen anything like it . Forget what you know about batteries . Google it see for yourself.

Nice use of a gun rack but I don't think I would want to be stuck with an electric car when the zombie apocalypse gets here.

What would Newt know about cars anyway? He doesn't even drive one; he just rides in the back.

Do the math. List on a Chevy Volt is $40,280. List on a Ford Focus is about $22,000. So even if gas costs $5.00 a gallon you can drive about 135,000 highway miles before you have spent the price difference on gas.

The real issue is the city slickers who drive a gas powered F-350 to pull there jet-ski once a month and rich dads who buy their college kids lifted turbo diesel trucks so they can drive it like a sports car. Ultimately though, that's the beauty of America, you have a choice.

Gun rack? Really, that's a gun rack?
Yahoo needs to reassess that whole "engineering over politics" statement.
If that guy hits the brakes hard that engineering marvel of his will become a heavy flying object to batter anyone in the front seats.
But I shouldn't assume that the Chevy Volt has brakes strong enough to do anymore than slowly coast to a stop.
He will probably be alright in his Jetson / Flintstones Mobile.

That old Browning Light 12 and that SKS might fit in your Volt but good luck getting my Barrett in there...
