Last week, electric motorcycle enthusiast Larry "Spiderman" McBride became the first person to get a battery-powered bike down a dragstrip at more than 200 mph, running the quarter mile at Virginia Motorsports Park in under seven seconds. The sound of the future can be heard below.

Built by Orange County Choppers, the bike carries a 250-lb lithium-ion battery pack that, when tied to a GE electric motor, can generate 1,340 hp. Given how fast even homebuilt electric bikes and cars are evolving, McBride's record likely won't stand long -- but it should be remembered for years to come. (Thanks for the tip, Chip!)
