GM pays Hyundai the ultimate compliment

There's a lot to unpack in this picture, so let's go through it bit by bit. The gentleman in the black T-shirt is an engineer from General Motors' Competitive Benchmarking Team — the group charged with tearing apart the competition's vehicles and finding their secrets, from new engine technology to how they get their dash seams so straight. The WALL-E looking machine shooting blue light around the white dots is making a precise 3-D computer model of the dashboard and switchgear so that GM can study its finer points.

And while GM's photographer tried to obscure it, we know enough about cars to identify the dashboard in question as belonging to a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV (up close, you can make out the chrome "H" logo on the steering wheel.) So while it looks like just another day in the GM engineering labs, it's actually one automaker giving another the most sincere form of flattery.
