June 28: Benz and Daimler joined to form Mercedes-Benz on this date in 1926

Eighty-seven years ago today, Benz & Cie. and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft AG formally merged to form Daimler-Benz AG. Four years earlier, the two companies had signed an agreement of mutual interest, but continued manufacturing separate vehicle lines until, on June 28, 1926, the factories began producing automobiles with the new brand name of Mercedes-Benz.
