Porsche 918 Spyder prototype in Martini Racing colors looks electric

Once upon a time, automakers kept their supercars as hidden as possible until the moment of a public reveal. With the Porsche 918 Spyder, a 770-hp plug-in hybrid-electric, Porsche has gone the opposite direction -- giving test drives, showing off mock-ups and now, giving the prototype a classic Martini Racing livery for its tests around the Nürburgring. Camouflage will just never be this interesting.

Set for production next September, the 918 will come with two electric motors on each axle and a turbocharged V-8, a combination Porsche says should produce 0-60 times of less than 3 seconds and fuel economy of more than 70 mpg. The price will land close to $1 million, and only 918 copies will be built.

And for those who aren't familiar with racing history, that is the same Martini brand you see on vermouth bottles, which sponsored Porsche's Le Mans-winning cars in the 1970s. Owners of the new 918s will be able to order this livery from Porsche, so they can enjoy it shaken and stirred.
