2014-2015 Audi SQ5 Recalled For Software Glitch That Could Deactivate Power Steering

Volkswagen has announced a recall of select Audi SQ5 crossovers from the 2014 and 2015 model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles may suffer from a software glitch that could cause them to lose power steering in cold weather.

Suspicions were raised about the flaw in February, when Audi noticed a rise in the number of warranty complaints associated with the SQ5's power steering system. Ultimately, the automaker determined that the problem was due to a fault in the steering motor sensor, which could deactivate the crossover's electric power steering assist system when the weather is very cold. Should that happen, the vehicle would become significantly harder to steer, particularly at lower speeds, increasing the risk of an accident.

Thankfully, Volkswagen knows of no any accidents or injuries associated with the problem.

The recall is limited to 2014-2015 Audi SQ5 vehicles built between May 22, 2013 and April 14, 2015. In the U.S., Audi says that 5,625 vehicles are affected.
