2015 Chevy Colorado Gives Chevrolet Broadest Truck Range on Market

At the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet introduced its replacement for the aged Colorado pickup, a new, truly midsize model that slots into the lineup beneath the Silverado 1500 and the Silverado Heavy Duty trucks. Offered in extended or crew cab styles with a short or regular-length cargo bed, the new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is expected to provide class-leading power, trailer tow ratings, and payload capacity, according to Chevy.

A 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, equipped with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing and rated to make 193 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Chevrolet says that 90 percent of the engine's torque is available from 2,000 rpm to 6,200 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to the rear wheels. A 4-wheel-drive system is optional.

The upgrade engine selection--the one delivering the aforementioned class-leading power--is a direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 generating 302 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that includes a tow/haul mode and delivers the Colorado's maximum tow rating of 6,700 lbs. when the truck is properly equipped.

Additionally, the 2015 Colorado is fortified with 4-wheel-disc brakes, Duralife brake rotors, a stability control system with rollover mitigation, and trailer sway control. Dealers also provide free scheduled service for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles. And in 2016, the new Colorado is slated to get a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine as an option, making it the only pickup in its class with such a power plant.
