2015 Land Rover LR4 Recalled To Fix To Software Flaw Affecting Stability, Traction, More

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling select Land Rover LR4 SUVs from the 2015 model year. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles suffer from a software flaw that could make them harder to control and increase the risk of accidents.

The flaw resides in the code associated with the LR4's Anti-Lock Braking system. Unfortunately, that's not the only area of the vehicle affected: the software glitch can disable the SUV's Dynamic Stability Control, Roll Stability Control, Traction Control, and Hill Decent Control. (Curious types can read the very long, interesting description of the problem in NHTSA's Defect Report.) Should that happen, the LR4 could become markedly more difficult to maneuver, upping the risk of a crash.

(Interestingly, this problem has been linked to a component manufactured by Bosch, which is currently having to replace a lot of fuel pumps for a very different flaw.)
