Cadillac Cuts Price, Enhances Performance of 2016 ELR Plug-in Coupe

Cadillac has lowered the price of its ELR plug-in hybrid coupe for the 2016 model year by $10,000, to an MSRP of less than $66,000 from $75,000. For many buyers, the price can be further reduced to $58,495 after applying $7,500 in federal tax credits. In addition to the price cut, technology upgrades have been made to boost the 2016 ELR's power, performance, and handling in an effort to excite premium and green-conscious consumers.

Debuting in 2014, the ELR is based on the Chevrolet Volt platform and shares its powertrain. For 2016, Cadillac adds a new grille and crest to update the look of the car. An improved electric drive system increases the ELR's power and torque by 25% and, according to Cadillac, will boost acceleration to achieve 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds--1.5 seconds faster than the current model.

Special tuning and adjustments have been made to improve handling, steering, and braking for more responsive driving that is expected in a premium sport coupe. Also, the 2016 ELR will come equipped with the OnStar communication system and built-in Wi-Fi.

For 2016, the Driver Assistance active safety systems--optional on the current ELR--are standard and include side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and Intellibeam headlamps. Lane-change alert and a new vehicle security system are also standard on the new ELR.
