2024 Buick Encore GX Nalgene water bottle test

The Buick Encore GX is the slightly bigger version of the brand’s smallest crossover, and it got a facelift for the 2024 model year. This is the Avenir, too, the fanciest and most stylish trim for the Encore lineup. Our most urgent question, though, has to do with hydration. We’re going to get thirsty driving this thing (we’re always thirsty), so can it hold our favorite water bottle, the full-size 32-ounce Nalgene? It might not match the Avenir's fanciness, but the humble Nalgene meets our thirst-quenching needs. We check the cupholders, door pockets and alternative places to conveniently stash our girthy water jug.

JOHN SNYDER: Hello there. This is John Snyder with "Autoblog," and in front of me is the 2024 Buick Encore GX Avenir. Yes, this is the '24. This is the makeover version. Gets a little bit of a facelift. I'm going to be doing a full drive review on this, but for right now, I want to know how well I can stay hydrated in it and if it will hold a Nalgene water bottle in any of its cup holders. So let's check it out.

All right, first these cup holders. Far too small. Not going to do it. That looks like it might fit. Let's see. It's a tight fit. It's going to be hard to pull out of there. You're going to end up breaking this after a while, but it'll hold it. So yeah, good enough.

Check the back. It's got these center armrest cup holders right here. Again, too small. But maybe the folks in the back can, like people up, front use the door. No, that's too small. It will stick in a little bit, but it won't go in any further than that. I wouldn't use that, I don't think.

There is one more little spot that I found when I was driving around with my Nalgene, and it actually works quite well. It can fall a little bit that way, but-- and there's some resistance there, so it's not tumbling all over the place. It's not moving left and right, really. That actually worked really well for me. So that spot was quite good.
