In the realm of classic cars, few can match the elegance and historical significance of the 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster. This remarkable vehicle, chassis no. 10002722, is one of only 1,858 produced between 1957 and 1963 and is among the exclusive 250 built in 1961. It encapsulates a blend of luxury and performance that defined Mercedes-Benz's post-war era.

The 300SL Roadster's inception is a story of automotive evolution, originating from the victorious Mercedes-Benz W194 at the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its road-going sibling, the 300 SL “Gullwing,” was a showstopper at its 1954 New York Auto Show debut, thanks to American importer Max Hoffman's vision. The Gullwing's unique design featured a tubular steel spaceframe and a stylish steel body with aluminum accents, all powered by a 3.0L, overhead-cam, straight-6 engine, enhanced by Bosch mechanical fuel injection, delivering an impressive 240 HP.
