The Dodge Stealth Will Return As A Grocery Getter Hybrid: Report

In all-electric mode it will be pretty stealthy. We’ll show ourselves out now…

With the electrification push in the auto industry, it seems the automakers are taking a page out of the Hollywood playbook and raiding the Member Berries to help stir up feelings of nostalgia in us all. With that purpose in mind, Dodge wants you to be excited for its upcoming gas-electric hybrid crossover grocery getter which MotorTrend says will bear the Stealth name.

Look back on how Harley-Davidson has leveraged nostalgia not too long ago here.

You remember the Dodge Stealth, co-developed with Mitsubishi, the twin of the 3000GT, right? During its production, the sports car was fairly controversial. In fact, it was supposed to be the 1991 Indianapolis 500 pace car, but an uproar from UAW and enthusiasts led to a pre-production Viper pacing the race, and the rest is of course history.

So the Stealth is an interesting name to bring back. We think it has more to do with some people in marketing finding the name just too clever to resist, like the Ford Lightning. After all, hybrid cars in all-electric mode make hardly any noise, so they’re pretty stealthy. It’s a lame joke and sadly might be one of the reasons for bringing back the name.

Dodge has quite the uncertain future. You might have seen the ads trying to spin the new Italian-built Hornet as some sort of muscle crossover, which is laughably dumb. MotorTrend claims the Stealth will sit at the top of the growing crossover lineup for the brand, bumping the Durango as the new three-row grocery getter.

So this is what we have to look forward to from Dodge. Just remember how not that long ago we were being told by the CEO that Dodge was still going to break all the rules and be in your face. That might be true, but it’s breaking all the car enthusiast rules as it’s in your face about crossovers and maybe some watered-down “muscle cars.” Sad.
