The New Ford SuperVan 4.2 is Heading To Pikes PeakFord

It’s already been a year since the team at Ford Pro pulled the cover of its electric SuperVan concept. Now the Blue Oval has returned with an updated variant of the EV racer slated to take on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this upcoming weekend. Here’s everything you need to know about the Ford SuperVan 4.2 and its plans for the mountain.

As the.2 nomenclature suggests, this latest take on the electric Ford Transit racer has been thoroughly reworked from when we last saw it. Gone is the original quad motor setup, which provided the original concept with as near as 2000 horsepower as makes no difference. Instead, a single electric motor now handles both front wheels, which Ford says helps get mass out of the car while improving overall distribution. Total output does suffer as a result however, with this latest SuperVan providing just over 1400 horsepower. In order to make the best use of that power, FoMoCo has outfitted the updated EV concept with a more aggressive lower aero package. This includes a larger front splitter, new side skirts down the flanks, and an immense diffuser package out back. Above the diffuser sits a new rear wing setup, which is now a double decker unit providing over 4400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. That should come in handy as driver Romain Dumas attempts to get this thing to the top of Pikes Peak with haste. Other adjustments to the SuperVan 4.2 include magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero slicks, a perspex windscreen, and upgraded driveline components. A regenerative braking system is also onboard, and is now supported by a battery pack with 600 kW of regeneration performance. A new livery mirroring the one found on the Mustang GT3 racer is also present, and is an improvement over the mostly white look from a year ago.
