Both Josef Newgarden and Stefan Wilson were injured in Thursday’s first of a two-day test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Wait, let’s clarify that: both Newgarden and Wilson were “injured” (with heavy emphasis on the quotes), leaving both in a little bit of pain and a lot of hilarity when they tried to explain their maladies.

First was Wilson, who did 140 laps of testing on Thursday, the equivalent of roughly 350 miles around the 3.5-mile IMS oval (a regulation 500 is 200 laps). But Wilson emerged from his race car at the end of the day with a painful issue.

Well, let’s call it what it was, it was a bit of a boo-boo.

“I've actually got a bruise on my little pinky toe just off the throttle pedal,” said Wilson, who added he “focused on being even fitter coming into this month.

“(It was) something on the driver fit. (The team addressed it Thursday night). It's just on my toe right here.”

After pointing out where his boo-boo was, Wilson added with a laugh, “We're going to fix that, don't worry. It's good when it's like that, the thing we can focus on. Who knew we'd be talking about that.”

Newgarden, meanwhile, also suffered an “injury” that may not have required a trip to the infield care center, but caused him problems nonetheless. That, or he didn’t want to give Wilson all the attention.

“My index nail is very sore, just on the tip of my nail. Got to work on that,” the two-time IndyCar champ chuckled.

Hey, it could have been worse. We could have had a third driver who suffered a painful blister on their ring finger.
