The BMW E30 M3 represents the pinnacle of the M brand for a large portion of the automaker’s fanbase. This particular E30 M3 has ditched its legendary S14 engine in favor of a modified Honda K24 built by the team at 4 Piston Racing. Now we have the chance to hear the M3 go through some dyno testing.

While it isn’t unheard of for owners to stick a Honda motor inside of an E30, you generally don’t find many M3s that have had their hearts ripped out. That’s particularly true as of late, with values of the Group A homologation specials growing steadily year after year. Having a factory-installed S14 engine in the car only serves to maintain that value, but not every owner is that concerned with such trivial matters. If you’re looking for a more modern and more easily tunable engine to sit in place of an S14, it is hard to argue against a K24. The team at 4 Piston Racing are certainly familiar with building high-output takes on the Honda motor, whether that be in naturally aspirated or forced induction form. This particular car features one of the brand’s atmospheric builds, which packs a motorsports-grade 9500 rpm redline and a 12.5:1 compression ratio.
