Yahoo Autos Lawyer: Chip Ganassi Trying to Keep Alex Palou from F1 Opportunity
It’s not usual that lawyers have a slip of the tongue or fingers, so to speak, when issuing a statement.
But Thursday, one of the attorneys representing reigning IndyCar champion Alex Palou in the lawsuit brought against him this week by team owner Chip Ganassi may have inadvertently revealed why Palou is so eager to leave his current team.
The original July 12 announcement of Palou’s signing with McLaren for 2023 and beyond was mysterious in the sense it did not specify where Palou may be racing next year, and more importantly, in which major racing series.
But now, in a statement released by one of his attorneys on Thursday afternoon, it appears Palou may be headed to Formula 1.
Here’s the statement by Rachel E. Epstein, of the Los Angeles-based law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLC:
“We are disappointed that Chip Ganassi Racing would attempt to keep Alex from an opportunity to compete in Formula One, and even more so with CGR’s public court filings and continued commentary to the press on this matter. Alex has consistently given his very best effort to CGR and it is unfortunate that CGR would attempt to deny Alex this opportunity. We would hope the parties can resolve this amicably, but if not, we look forward to resolving this matter in a private arbitration, as CGR has requested.”
