Brexton Busch is just 8 years old, but when it comes to racing that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t always perform up to his potential as far as his father Kyle Busch is concerned.

Earlier this year at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina, Busch said there was a race in which his son “didn’t do a good job.”

“He got his iPad taken away for two weeks,” Busch said. “He went back out the next week and he asked me if he could have his iPad back. I said, ‘You can go earn it back tonight.’ He goes out there and he wins the race. So, he gets his iPad back.”

Busch said he was still working on the definitions of the words “effort” and “try” with his son. He said he’s a little tentative at times during a race.

“But he’s also been aggressive at times and has gotten himself where he might spin somebody out or spin himself out or something and then he gets sent to the back. He doesn’t want to get sent to the back, so he would rather not make a pass and ride in that position then have to go back all the way to the tail of the field.”

Busch admits his son is “actually a lot smarter than I might give him credit for a lot of times.”

“He really does do a good job of calculation and thinking through things, but if I could just push him a little bit harder, to be a little bit more aggressive. When he listens, he does a great job.”

Later this week the three are racing at the same dirt tracks. Busch will run the Micro Sprints, while his son competes in either Go-Kart or Junior Sprint. They are competing at Tri-City Speedway in St. Charles, Missouri, on June 1, Doe Run Raceway in Doe Run, Missouri on June 2, and Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, on June 3.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun to be able to go up there and race those three tracks on three separate nights and have a good time running, him and I,” Busch said.
