The Nissan Max-Out Concept Is Perfectly Strange

Nissan showed that it doesn’t always lean into wild concepts with the nearly production-ready Z Proto Concept, but that doesn’t mean the company is totally done with wild concepts. Meet Nissan’s Max-Out. This two-seat convertible concept harks back to the fun times when concept cars were a design study and an excuse to make something audacious. The Max-Out Concept is exceptionally audacious.

Nissan is incredibly light on the Max-Out Concept’s hardware details. There’s no real mention of the powertrain or the structure or anything that points to this thing heading to production anytime soon. What Nissan does note is that the Max-Out Concept sports an electric powertrain, which makes sense considering the rising stature of electrification.

Unlike Nissan’s legacy EVs such as the Leaf or even its freshly minted Ariya, the Max-Out isn’t trying to be a practical EV. Much like the Nissan Z Proto, this concept portrays what Nissan could do in the future for fun. The two-seat convertible might not be as practical as a midsize crossover, but it should signal for Nissan fans that the company still wants to engage enthusiast customers going forward.

The concept itself seems like it would be at home in Cyberpunk 2077 or a Blade Runner spinoff. The wild front and rear lighting are only outdone by the illuminated wheel covers. It’s hard to imagine the wheels and covers ever hitting the assembly line, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to see a variant of the rear lighting make its way to a future production car. The interior is equally as futuristic, with an illuminated steering wheel and spanning digital instrument cluster.

It’s likely that Nissan will take this concept on tour to an auto show or event near you, but it’s debuting at the Nissan Futures event at its global headquarters in Japan.
