The 2023 Nissan Z is one of the most important performance cars of 2022. The 400-hp, twin-turbo V-6-powered sports car was expected to launch in the U.S. by springtime, but Nissan just confirmed we'll likely be waiting a bit longer.

The Japanese automaker confirmed to Automotive News Wednesday that the launch date for the Z in its home market of Japan has been pushed from sometime in June to "this summer." Nissan declined to be more specific about dates and didn't elaborate on what this delay meant for U.S. markets.

The Nissan Z was originally supposed to go on sale in spring 2022 here in America. Nikkei Asia claims the launch in Japan will now take place sometime between July and September, according to Automotive News. A bit of a shame considering new owners might now miss out on a whole summer of driving fun.

Nissan blamed the delay on, you guessed it, "ongoing semiconductor shortages and supply chain disruptions from the spread of COVID-19," according to Automotive News.

The Z is far from the first car to be subjected to production setbacks due to shortages. We've seen every manufacturer, from Lotus to Ford, suffer from issues stemming from the pandemic. Chevy had to stop production of the C8 Corvette this week because the plant ran out of parts. It's an ongoing issue carmakers have been dealing with for years now.
