In a groundbreaking move, Porsche has become the first automaker to seamlessly integrate vehicle functions into Apple CarPlay. This integration allows Porsche owners to manage a wide range of features, including air conditioning, ambient cabin lighting, and the in-built satellite navigation system, all within the familiar Apple CarPlay interface.

The cutting-edge technology will first be available in the latest Porsche Cayenne model before being gradually introduced to other Porsche models. For nearly a decade, Apple CarPlay has been a popular feature in cars, enabling users to display and control various functions from their Apple devices on the vehicle's infotainment screen. However, certain vehicle-specific controls like air-conditioning settings necessitated exiting the Apple CarPlay interface and using the car's native operating system.
With the integration of car controls in Apple CarPlay, Porsche has eliminated this inconvenience. Apple's announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2022 hinted at expanding CarPlay to incorporate more vehicle functions, and Porsche has delivered on that promise.
The extended CarPlay capabilities have been introduced through an update to the My Porsche mobile phone app. This app offers a range of features, including battery charge status, air conditioning adjustments, and sending destinations to the navigation system. It also seamlessly connects with providers like Apple Music, enabling integration with associated apps in Porsche's infotainment system, known as PCM (Porsche Communication Management).
Unlike previous iterations of PCM, these added features now allow Porsche owners to control select vehicle functions within the Apple CarPlay interface itself. This means they can manage their air conditioning, utilize the embedded navigation system, access radio features, view photos, and even adjust ambient lighting—all without leaving the Apple CarPlay environment.
The integration also extends to Apple's Siri voice control assistant, enabling users to control car features using voice commands, further enhancing the convenience and hands-free nature of the system.
