Sergio Perez had a better weekend than we previously thought. Before the Monaco Grand Prix, he signed a contract extension with Red Bull, which will see him stay with the team until 2024. Then he went out and won the Monaco Grand Prix, thanks to a solid drive on a drying track, and a baffling Ferrari strategy call that put pole-sitter Charles Leclerc in fourth.

The Mexican joined Red Bull last year, after years spent with midfield teams, where he established himself as one of the most consistently strong drivers in the sport. His first win came with Racing Point at Sakhir in 2020, and he achieved two more with Red Bull, overtaking Pedro Rodriguez's two victories to become the most successful Mexican F1 driver.

He's also been a perfect wingman for Red Bull golden boy Max Verstappen. His defense against Lewis Hamilton at last year's season-finale at Abu Dhabi was instrumental in Verstappen winning the race, and therefore, the championship. Right now, he sits third in driver's standings, having finished in the top four in all but one race this season.
