In 1970, the first Celica was Toyota's response to the Ford Mustang. Just like how Ford Europe created the Capri to ride that affordable sports coupé wave. Nowadays, the TA22 is an absolute classic, recognized as one of the most iconic Toyotas of all time. And here's one with an 1100 horsepower V8 and all-wheel drive.

Australia's Jamie Heritage is borderline crazy. After running his 1971 Celica with a turbocharged 4.0 V8 out of a Lexus for a while, he realized that the car needed all-wheel drive to put its power down at the drag strip. So, he took the gear set of an R34 Nissan GT-R and the differentials of an R33, only to end up with 1100 horsepower sent to all four wheels in a car that weighs under 2900lbs. with him in it. His Celica is registered for the road, has been running reliably for six years, and the next challenge is set at breaking the 200mph barrier. Talk about the best of Japan!
