Yahoo Autos A 1956 Porsche 356A Is 85 Horsepower of Joy
You've probably heard the slow-car-fast argument by this point. If you haven't it goes like this - it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slowly. It's a cliche in the car world, but there's a good reason for that. Truly, there is joy in using all of a car's horsepower.
Especially when that car is a restored 1956 Porsche 356A. Its 1600cc flat-four may only make 85 horsepower, but the 356A's excellent chassis lets you make the most of it. The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah, who's used to all sorts of high-horsepower madness, was thrilled to drive this little car. This 356 might be over sixty years old, but it's an easy car to get comfortable with. It even stops well, despite its lack of disc brakes.
Farah finds that there are few drawbacks to a 356 like this. It's a car that's great on a backroad, but its comfortable ride and relatively efficient engine make it a good highway cruiser too. Add in the 356's excellent durability, and you've got an incredibly complete package.
Not bad for something with only 85 horsepower.
