Back in the 1990s and 2000s, it seemed like there was some sort of competition amongst automakers to see who could run the most boost through their engines. The same phenomena occurred in the late 1960s, except instead of forced induction, manufacturers were battling over displacement. That's how the Dodge Coronet 440 R/T came about.
It all started with the original Mustang's 289 cubic-inch V8. This engine started a displacement war with Chevy and Mopar, culminating in this, the Coronet 440 R/T. A monstrous 7.21-liter V8 sat under the hood, giving the driver all the torque they'd ever need.
Mr. Regular got behind the wheel of the Coronet R/T and finds having a torque converter automatic sending power to the rear wheels is a welcome addition. All that low-down power means even breathing on the throttle will light the rears up.
