The 1969 Lola T70 Is Both Graceful and Vicious

From Road & Track

There are many reasons why the Group 5 cars that raced at Le Mans in the late 1960s and early 1970s are so beloved. I think it's their mix of simple beauty and brutal performance that makes them so compelling. This 1969 Lola T70 MkIII B embodies this duality perfectly, with its graceful shape powered by a demonic 5.0-liter, 650-hp Chevy small block V8. It makes a sound Camaros and Corvettes could only hope to match.

As part of its excellent Flat Out and Fearless series, Goodwood Road & Racing put touring car champ Andrew Jordan behind the wheel of this T70 at Silverstone circuit in the UK. The results are, unsurprisingly, excellent. It's worth watching for the sound alone.

It takes Jordan a few laps to get comfortable with this car, but eventually, he finds it to be quite friendly at the limits. Quickly, he figures out why the T70 has become a racing icon-and you will too, after watching this.
