From Road & Track

Thanks to the Mercedes-AMG GT and the ultra-luxurious S-Class Coupe, it's easy to forget that the SL was the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz. Of course, the current SL is still quite excellent, but it gets lost in the shuffle somewhat. Let's resist a time where the SL was the clear king of the Mercedes stable: The early 1990s.

Motorweek, Television's Automotive Magazine, just posted its 1990 review of the 500SL to its YouTube channel, and it's an excellent trip down memory lane. It was designed and built in a time when Mercedes didn't worry about costs–just about building the best cars it could.

All of that luxury came at a cost for the customer, though. In this case it was $83,000, which is over $150,000 when adjusted for inflation. Still Motorweek loved the SL500 for its sports car rivaling performance and its top-notch comfort.
