The 2001 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning Hauls Tire Smoke

The F-150s tuned by Ford's Special Vehicle Team may not be as insane as a Viper-powered, stick shift Dodge Ram SRT-10, but the supercharged 5.4 Triton V8s still made them get to sixty in 5.4 seconds, with the quarter mile line crossed in 13.9 secs. Not bad from a truck first introduced in 1999.

Luckily, lighting up those 18-inch, Z-rated Goodyear tires before each run wasn't a problem either, thanks to a shorter rear axle ratio introduced for 2001.

Following its facelift, the SVT Lightning (based on the tenth-generation F-150) came with 380 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, aided by 8psi of boost from an intercooled, Roots-type Eaton supercharger. The V8's power is sent through a four-speed automatic, while the improved ride came curtesy of Bilstein shocks all around. Big wheels hiding high-performance brakes, in a performance truck that's somehow classified as a "low emissions vehicle."
