2013 Ferrari 599 Replacement: 25 Cars Worth Waiting For
From the April 2011 Issue of Car and Driver
What it is: The next-gen version of Ferrari’s top front-engine model, thoroughly redesigned.
Why it matters: Because you’re exceedingly rich and you like Ferraris. It will also be important to you if you like to argue in online forums about supercars you’ve never driven.
Platform: A new aluminum architecture. Overall length will remain unchanged, but the wheelbase is expected to grow to make room for hybrid gear.
Powertrain: A 670-horsepower version of the current 599’s 6.0-liter V-12. Modifications include direct injection and a 102-hp electric motor that is good for 20-second boosts of power. A small, lithium-ion battery, recharged by regenerative braking, will provide the electric motor’s juice. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (shared with the new FF) is likely.
Competition: 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.
What might go wrong: Purchase of car might obligate the new owner to visit Ferrari World in Dubai.
Estimated arrival and price: Look for it in 2012, and you’ll need $400,000.
