2016 Nissan Titan Diesel XD recalled for fuel tank flaw
Nissan is recalling select 2016 Titan Diesel XD pickups to address a problem with their fuel tanks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 12,000 vehicles registered in the U.S. will need to be repaired.

The XD's problem is rooted in a manufacturing issue that could allow owners to run out of fuel without warning. NHTSA's defect report explains:
"During the assembly process of certain 2016 Nissan Titan Diesel XD vehicles, certain plant technicians may not have removed the temporary fuel tank breather tube cap, and may not have correctly affixed the tube to the bed rail. As a result, the fuel tank may not receive proper ventilation through the fuel tank breather tube and, in rare instances, may deform. This condition could result in the fuel gauge, and the separate distance to empty meter, to both display inaccurately."
At least five Titan XD owners have experienced problems stemming from the fuel tank flaw.
The recall affects 2016 Titan Diesel XD vehicles manufactured between August 7, 2015 and September 1, 2016. In the U.S., NHTSA says that 12,112 trucks will be serviced as part of the recall.

Nissan will mail recall notices to owners of those vehicles, asking them to schedule inspections with their local dealerships. Dealers will check the XD's fuel tank breather tube and replace the fuel tank, fuel sending unit, and/or fuel tank breather tube as needed.
