Looking ready to hit the trail (or at least the parking lot), the 2017 Chevrolet Spark Activ brings some outdoorsy style to the minicar segment.

Debuting this week at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Spark Activ is more about looks than actual capability. Its suspension sits a little under half an inch higher than stock, but it remains a front-wheel drive vehicle. That extra clearance should help it on gravel roads, but don't look for it to rival Jeeps when the going gets really rough.

It's mostly about styling. Like the global market Beat Activ that previewed it earlier this year, the Spark Activ features unpainted bumpers and fender flares, as well as unique rocker moldings and a roof rack as standard.

The Spark Activ's powertrain remains a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gas engine.

Chevy is positioning the Spark Activ as a higher-end model within the Spark lineup, which explains its $16,945 base price (with a stick shift; $18,045 with the optional CVT). All models will feature standard 15-inch alloy wheels and fog lamps outside, as well as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability inside. Leatherette seats are heated up front, and a rearview mirror is also part of the standard spec package.

While we haven't seen full specs yet, that price actually appears to undercut the non-lifted Spark 2LT by about $250.

Look for the Spark Activ to hit the market in early 2017.
