2017 Nissan GT-R NISMO: Same 600 Horses, Now With More Handling and Aero

From Road & Track

Nissan recently refreshed the regular GT-R for 2017, which meant a refreshed NISMO version was on the way. Here it is.

If you were hoping it would have more power, we're sorry to disappoint you. Its 3.8-liter V6 still makes the same 600 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque as last year's model. Of course, the previous version did 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds, so it's not like it was hurting for speed.

Instead, NISMO focused its energy on handling and aerodynamics.

The grille, for example, has been enlarged to swallow more air, while the hood was reinforced to retain its shape at high speeds. The canards ahead of the front wheels have been modified to improve air flow and increase downforce.

The GT-R's body has also been stiffened, allowing NISMO to retune the shock absorbers, springs, and stabilizers. Nissan claims these improvements, along with the car's increased downforce, improve slalom speed and cornering capability by two percent each, though the automaker did not provide actual performance numbers. Expect the car to feel more balanced, as well.

Inside, the GT-R NISMO gets the same interior updates as the regular car. That means a larger infotainment system screen and fewer buttons in the center stack. Unlike the base-model GT-R, the NISMO version gets leather Recaro seats with red synthetic suede inserts.

Nissan has not yet said how much the 2017 GT-R NISMO will cost, nor did the automaker reveal when it will appear at dealerships. Godzilla may be aging, but there's fight in this thing yet.
