2017 Nissan Rogue picks up Hybrid model
Nissan will spread its hybrid technology to another model in its lineup for the 2017 model year, in the form of the Nissan Rogue Hybrid.
It's not the only change coming to the Rogue, which gets some sheet metal touch-ups on gas-powered models, too. The Rogue adopts a new front end with a V-shaped grille, like the one found on the bigger Pathfinder, with LED running lights and taillights, as well as a new rear bumper. Inside, there's a new steering wheel with available heating, and remote start; a Platinum Reserve trim package wears quilted leather on its front seats.

While the stock Rogue stands by its 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-4, the Rogue Hybrid reaches deeper into Nissan's more advanced, battery-enabled parts bin. It pairs a 141-hp 2.0-liter inline-4 with a lithium-ion battery pack mounted beneath the rear cargo floor, and with a 30-kw electric motor rated at 40 hp. Net system output is set at 176 hp.
The hybrid system factors in stop/start and regenerative braking, and connects the Rogue Hybrid's CVT to either the front or to all four wheels, when optional all-wheel drive is chosen.
Fuel economy is estimated at 33 mpg city, 35 highway, 34 combined for front-drive crossovers, and 31/34/33 mpg for all-wheel-drive versions. For comparison, the non-hybrid Rogue is estimated at 26/33/29 mpg with front-wheel drive, 25/32/28 mpg with all-wheel drive.

All Rogues come with seating for at least five passengers, but the Rogue Hybrid can't be fitted with the small, optional third-row seat; the battery pack takes up the space where that fold-away bench normally would be stored. The same is true for the flexible cargo-storage system offered on gas-only Rogue crossovers.
The Rogue has earned good crash-test scores in its current generation. For 2017, the top trim levels can be fitted with surround-view cameras; adaptive cruise control; forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking; and lane-departure warnings and lane-keep assist.
The 2017 Rogue will come in S, SV, and SL trim levels; Rogue Hybrids will only be offered in SV and SL trim. All models come with standard power features; air conditioning; cruise control; AM/FM/CD/XM audio with USB and Bluetooth with streaming audio; and a rearview camera.
SV Rogues get 17-inch wheels, pushbutton start, a power driver seat, blind-spot monitors, and remote start. SL models add leather, Bose audio, and navigation.
