2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Race-Ready at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show

This week, Nissan previewed its “motorsports-ready” 2017 Sentra NISMO upgraded compact car in downtown Los Angeles ahead of the 2016 L.A. Auto Show. Classic Nissan and Datsun performance cars were lined up as a backdrop for the NISMO sporty sedan debut.

The 2017 Sentra NISMO, which will be offered in four exterior color choices, is set to bring aftermarket, tuner-style performance to compact car driving enthusiasts direct from the factory, according to a Nissan North America executive. The racetrack-ready car arrives in dealer showrooms in January 2017 with a starting price estimated to be less than $25,000.

NISMO, Nissan’s performance and motorsports division, has given the Sentra aggressive exterior treatments with a performance-themed interior along with stiffer body structure and suspension tuning. Power for the new Sentra NISMO is generated by a turbocharged, direct-injection, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that puts out 188 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque when matched with a 6-speed manual transmission with selected gear ratios, or a NISMO specially tuned Xtronic automatic.

Red NISMO accents are characteristic on the front bumper and on the side mirrors, along with the addition of aerodynamic wings plus a black grille and new spoiler plus NISMO badging. Chrome door handles and black mirror caps accessorize the NISMO look along with unique exhaust tips. Inside, the NISMO-designed interior features charcoal and red NISMO sports car seats as well as a leather- and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.

This specialty car rides on 18-in. aluminum alloy wheels. A unique instrument cluster and the latest infotainment technology is standard on the Sentra NISMO, which is one of several Nissan NISMO halo models. Others include the GT-R, 370Z, and the Juke—all with NISMO’s sports performance treatments, suspension and handling modifications, and interior upgrades.
